The Algorithmic Reconfiguration of the Cartesian Subject

Abstract

This project examines how contemporary artificial intelligence reshapes the structural assumptions of the Cartesian subject: the transparency of reason, the sovereignty of the cogito, and the autonomy of the knowing agent. It argues that today’s epistemic shift is not merely technological but ontological: algorithmic mediation creates a new form of cognitive subjection driven by correlation, extraction, and feedback, blurring the line between subject and system. The aim is to outline the conditions of possibility for a post-Cartesian subjectivity in the age of predictive models.
